Edinbane (Skye) Music Festival

"Edinbanter"

EDINBANTER was just one of  the  projects which took place under the umbrella of the 2003 Festival. The idea of the project was to record the history, tales, hopes and dreams of all of us living in Edinbane and to turn them into a series of songs and poems that were performed and recorded live at the Festival in July. The team was led by Robin Laing who performed at the festival for the previous two years with his own show  "The Angels share - the storey of whisky in song and verse". Robin was joined by Billy Stewart a singer songwriter from Lanark and Uig born poet Aongus MacNeaceil. The three of them met groups and individuals from the community and shared stories that represented Edinbane across the generations, past present and future.

The "Edinbanter" CD was professionally recorded at the
Edinbane Festival in July

The recording is a collection of work by local people, songwriters
Robin Laing and Billy Stewart and  poet Aonghas MacNeacall. It
reflects the life and times of Edinbane past and present.
From tales of children sneaking out of the school playground to
catch a glimpse of the puffa tied up at Greshornish to moles and
windmills. From the serious to the light hearted the CD provides
an original insight into the social history of Edinbane.

Festival Chairwoman Mary McSwan commented
"This is just the start. The way this project got everyone talking
writing and singing was inspirational
- why I've even given up smoking!"
