 PRESS RELEASE EDINBANE FESTIVAL 2004
Àrd Urlar 1 - Stage 1

New opportunity and venue for up and coming young talent.
Ard Ular

July 1st and 2nd is festival time in Edinbane. The festival parade on Saturday afternoon will mark the opening of Àrd Urlar / Stage 1; the new development from the Edinbane Festival in North Skye.

Big thanks to everyone that enquired about performing at the last festival. We cant reply to every one that sent us a demo or registered interest but THANK YOU.

Àrd Urlar / Stage 1, is a major development and collaboration with 'An Drochaid' the traditional music project for Skye & Lochalsh. Born out of a desire to encourage and develop young local people's musical and performing talents this years' festival improves Àrd Urlar / Stage 1. The show is devoted to highlighting and developing the skills of talented young people up to the age of 26.

Rosie Somerville said, "There is much talk in the news at the moment about the wealth of talent in the Highlands and that Scotland is the place to spot the big musicians of the future. Edinbane Festival has given several young bands a break over the last three years, notably Kilt Rock & Gadelica and highlighted the exceptional talents of individual performers like Ross MacSorley, pipes and Fiona Danter, song". She went on to say "We will shortly be advertising for places in the programme, so make sure to take advantage of this oportunity."

The second year of Àrd Urlar /Stage 1 continues our annual event, which not only gives young people a platform for their music, dance and song but also gives the artistes the experience of taking part in a festival, entertaining an audience and developing performance skills.

Louise MacKenzie of An Drochaid is supporting the traditional element of the programme. "An Drochaid is committed to promoting and encouraging the wealth of talent we have in the Skye & Lochalsh area and this is an excellent opportunity to showcase the vibrant young talent which exists here. To this end, we are delighted to work in partnership with the Edinbane Festival on the project. Everyone involved is excited about the possibilities for the future of Àrd Urlar / Stage 1, with its own venue and its own developing identity."

Àrd Urlar / Stage 1 will take place in a marquee outside the Edinbane Hotel on Saturday 2 July. Be there for the stars of tomorrow.

More information will be released nearer the date.
